Conservation officers say Diego Hoil, 40, was driving a rented snowmobile when he lost control trying to go around a corner and hit a tree. He was thrown from the snowmobile as it came to an abrupt stop.
One of the people he was riding with called 911 and he was ultimately taken to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin to be treated for multiple injuries.
Officers said there was significant damage to the snowmobile.
The crash was under investigation on Sunday, but officers believe Hoil was likely going too fast and was inexperienced on a snowmobile.
