Launching almost three decades ago, Yu-Gi-Oh! remains a big name in the world of both trading card games and anime. Now, one of the first of these anime projects can be relived and experienced just like when it first came out.
Nostalgic anime streaming service RetroCrush is known for its many old-school offerings, and as the years pass, anime that latter-day millennials grew up with are now part of this number. One of the most notable programs from the early 2000s was the classic Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, and it’s now one of the titles being shown all day through RetroCrush. Broadcast every morning throughout March, it’s like a leisurely blast from the anime past, complete with everything except the cereal.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Returns to Watch Free With RetroCrush Morning Rewinds
RetroCrush recently announced that several titles will be part of its “Saturday Morning Cartoon” programming block, and despite the name, these shows will be available to watch every morning throughout the month of March. This is on RetroCrush’s free 24/7 live anime channel, with these largely being shows from years or even decades past.
Chief among the announcements for this block is Yu-Gi-Oh!, and given the lack of any suffixes, it’s safe to assume that this is the “original” anime that was also known in Japan as 1999’s Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. This was actually the second such adaptation of the Kazuki Takahashi manga, and it focused solely on the “Duel Monsters” card game as opposed to the early chapters that the 1998 anime adapted.
This Saturday Morning Cartoon block evokes the way anime such as Yu-Gi-Oh! were released in the West during the early 2000s. Yu-Gi-Oh! will be joined by Western cartoons such as Sonic Boom and Slugterra, making this connection even stronger. Despite the “morning” connotation, these will be broadcast from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the live channel then transitioning to “Afterschool Anime.” This will have more of a pure anime focus and include classics such as Samurai Troopers.
Finally, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., “Anime Madness” will show retro hits such as Astro Boy. For those who grew up with these anime, it’s the perfect way to relive their childhoods, while a new generation can make the same memories. For its on-demand programming, RetroCrush is offering even more options, including the cyberpunk mecha anime Bubblegum Crash.
