SANTEE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Three people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol a DUI checkpoint in Santee on Saturday night, authorities said.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies from the Santee Sheriff’s Station conducted the roadblock in the 8800 block of North Magnolia Avenue from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Sunday.
A total of 905 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint, with 57 drivers undergoing a secondary evaluation. Authorities said three of those drivers were ultimately arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Another 14 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended license, with a total of five vehicles impounded.
“Don’t drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” stated the sheriff’s office. “We also want to remind the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.”
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
