‘Piano Plus!’ concert series opens at Olive Free Library on April 25

WEST SHOKAN, N.Y. — The Olive Free Library’s “Piano Plus!” concert series returns for its 10th year starting Saturday, April 25, the library announced.

In a press release, the library said the series, curated by Olive composer George Tsontakis, will feature three performances spread out across the spring. Each performance takes place at the library, 4033 state Route 28A.

On Saturday, April 25, at 2 p.m., the series kicks off with Frank Corliss on piano with special guest Yi-Wen Jiang on violin. The duo will play a Grieg violin sonata, several short pieces by Brahms, and a group of short pieces by Bach and Kurtag, the release said.

Corliss is the director of the Bard College Conservatory of Music. He previously served as a staff pianist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. Jiang, who is a founding faculty member at the conservatory, had a 26-year tenure with the Shanghai Quartet beginning in 1994. He is also a composer, arranging pieces for violin-piano and string quartet.

On Saturday, May 9, at 2 p.m., pianist Michael Boriskin will come to the library for a performance titled “Paris to New York to Mexico City in Three Scenes.” Boriskin, accompanied by special guest Helena Baillie on violin, will perform music by Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, and Claude Debussy.

Boriskin, a piano soloist and chamber music collaborator, has performed in more than 30 countries. He was named one of Musical America’s “Top 30 Professionals of the Year” in 2023. British-born Baillie is a performer and violin and viola faculty member at the Bard College Music Program.

The series wraps up Saturday, June 20, at 2 p.m. with pianist Ayane Nakajima, who will perform a Maurice Ravel Sonatine and Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 31 Op. 110, the release said. A soloist and chamber musician, Nakajima is set to perform around the world in 2026, including at the 2026 Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont.
