Freddie Prinze Jr. celebrated his 50th birthday on March 8. His wife Sarah Michelle Gellar marked the occasion with a sweet tribute shared on her Instagram. The Cruel Intentions actress posted two playful photos of herself and her husband on her March 8 Instagram post.
She’s wearing a sparkly sequined dress while he has on a cream crew neck shirt and a beige sweater on top. They were making faces at the camera while arm in arm in one photo and the second picture shows Gellar planting a kiss on her husband while he’s beaming at the camera. She wrote in the caption:
“Happy Milesyone Bday @realfreddieprinze. Age is simply the moment of years the world has gotten to enjoy you. And no one has enjoyed you, more than me.”
The photos were from the actor’s 50th birthday celebration and not some throwbacks. It was confirmed through his Instagram Stories with several more photos from the event that he reposted from some of his friends.
Lucifer star Aimee Garcia was one of those who attended the birthday party and she posted a photo with Freddie Prinze Jr. on her Instagram Stories while thanking Sarah Michelle Gellar for “hosting an epic party.” Gossip Girl actress Mädchen Amick and her singer-actress daughter Mina Tobias were also at the party.

Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar have been married for 23 years. They tied the knot in 2002, years after they first met each other on the set of the 1997 horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer.
But they didn’t date each other while filming the slasher movie. It would take three years or so for them to start dating each other in January 2000 but they got engaged a year after that.
Gellar shared that having “separate bathrooms” is a key factor in why her marriage to Prinze Jr. lasted for over two decades. She first shared that ‘secret’ in a June 2025 interview during her appearance on the Today show.
And she stands by that comment during her and Chrissy Teigen’s interview with E! News for the Star Search premiere last January 20. She said:
“Separate bathrooms. That’s what I always say.”
Fellow Star Search judge Chrissy Teigen agreed that “it is things like that” that can help “keep the sexy and preserve the sexy in a little bit of ways” within a marriage.
As for Freddie Prinze Jr., he told E! News in July last year that he has never gotten good advice about making a marriage last.
He said that most of the marriage advice given to him was from men who were divorced and thought that he and Gellar would divorce too. But he said that such advice is “like peanut butter.” He explained:
“I may think it’s delicious, but if you’re allergic, you’re dead too.”
