BBC fans obsessed after Call the Midwife reunion sees iconic stars reunite for finale

It’s been 15 seasons and countless babies born since Call the Midwife first aired on the BBC in 2012. Now, 14 years later, the cast – both old and new – have reunited to celebrate the finale episode of the latest series, and viewers are obsessed with the reunion.

To mark the 15th series finale, the cast and crew gathered together to watch a screening of the episode, which teases the childbirth of “one of their own”.

What happened at the Call the Midwife reunion?

Taking to Instagram, the cast and crew from past and present gathered to celebrate the impressive milestone. The reunion featured Jessica Raine (Jennie Lee), writer Heidi Thomas, Laura Main (Shelagh Turner), Bryony Hannah (Cynthia Miller), Annabelle Apsion (Violet Buckle) and Fenella Woolgar (Sister Hilda).

Other familiar faces included Victoria Yeates (Sister Winifred), Miriam Margolyes (Mother Mildred), Linda Bassett (Phyllis Crane), Helen George (Trixie Franklin) and Stephen McGann (Patrick Turner).

The caption began: “NEWS: Call the Midwife stars, past and present, gather to celebrate 15 years of our drama with an exclusive screening of Sunday’s episode. Well, what an emotional night!!

“To mark the culmination of Series 15, our lovely producers, Neal Street, hosted a very special screening of our Series Finale – for all of our Call the Midwife family, past and present xxx”

“Work commitments meant that not everybody was able to make it of course, but what a turnout we had!!!! Much-loved cast members and crew from every part of our last fifteen years gathered together – there were tearful reunions – many baby photos were shared – and there was so much joy in the room!

“Everybody involved in this production over the years is family to us – an essential part of what has made this show a global hit. We love every single one of you. Thank you all so much for sharing last night with us. xxxxxxx The Call the Midwife Series 15 Finale. Sunday at 8pm on BBC1 xx”

What are fans saying about the Call the Midwife reunion?

Fans were quick to take to the comments to share their love for the reunion, while also praising the hit show’s continued success.

“This American has been obsessed with this amazing show for several years,” penned one viewer. “If I admitted to how many times I’ve watched every season as my bedtime ritual, I’d be embarrassed to say the least. I know there is more to come, but to know this format is coming to an end is beyond hard. But thank you for the most impactful storytelling.”

Meanwhile, a second penned: “Honestly, my favourite series and the best show ever created. It has warmed my heart so much over the years through the many laughs and tears. It has showcased some truly fantastic storylines and brought the magic of history to life. I hope we get more in the future.”

A third added: “Wonderful show. I know all good things must come to and end but this one will be truly missed. Love to all cast and crew past and present. You have all done remarkably. I love this show so much and love watching it all over again. Love from California!”

Speaking to HELLO! exclusively ahead of the finale, Rosalind actress Natalie Quarry reflected on her time spent on the show. “I feel, especially this season, I get to do some really exciting work, and working with Zephryn so much has been fantastic,” she said. 

“I’ve learned so much from that show, and I’m so grateful to be a part of it and to continue to be a part of it in whatever that is.”

Season 15 of Call the Midwife airs on BBC One at 8pm on Sunday 8 March in the UK. It will also land on PBS in the US on Sunday 22 March.
