Sophie Cunninghams Blunt Dating Rule Goes Viral as Indiana Fever Star Opens Up on Podcast

While the WNBA continues to dominate headlines with ongoing Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations, Sophie Cunningham managed to grab attention for a completely different reason. The Indiana Fever forward recently went viral after sharing a candid personal preference about dating during an episode of her podcast.

Speaking on her show Show Me Something, which she hosts alongside West Wilson, Cunningham answered a fan voicemail that asked for advice about dating taller women. The caller, a listener from Los Angeles, explained that he is around six feet tall but is often attracted to women who are taller than him and wondered if he should simply accept that it may not work out.

Cunningham didn’t hesitate with her response. The 6-foot-1 forward admitted that she personally could not date someone shorter than her. According to Cunningham, the preference comes down to how she feels physically and emotionally in a relationship.

“I could never date someone shorter than me,” Cunningham said during the episode, explaining that she prefers a partner who makes her feel smaller rather than emphasizing her height difference. Her straightforward answer quickly became a talking point among fans online.

Despite her personal rule, Cunningham made it clear that her preference isn’t universal. She acknowledged that plenty of couples successfully navigate height differences and that attraction ultimately comes down to chemistry and personality.

She even offered some playful advice for the caller looking to meet taller women. Cunningham suggested spending time around sports like beach volleyball or sand volleyball, environments where tall athletes are common and where he might naturally meet someone with the height he’s looking for.

The offseason has been a busy one for Cunningham as well. The Fever forward is currently working her way back from an MCL tear she suffered during a game against the Connecticut Sun late in the 2025 season, an injury that cut her campaign short.

Cunningham is expected to return when the Fever begin the 2026 season in May, joining a roster that continues to generate major attention thanks to stars like Caitlin Clark. But after her viral podcast moment, fans may now be just as curious about Cunningham’s dating standards as they are about her return to the court—so would you agree with her height rule in relationships?
