In 2017, Peninsula of Mobile (PoM) partnered with Councilman CJ Small District 3 and the City of Mobile Traffic Engineering Department to complete Phase 2 of “Connecting Mobile’s Coastal Peninsula”, a TAP grant project focused on improving pedestrian access and safety along Dauphin Island Parkway.

Phase 2 added 2,560 linear feet of new 5-foot-wide ADA-compliant sidewalks and upgraded existing sidewalks with ADA-compliant curb ramps on both sides of the parkway between Interstate 10 and Old Military Road, laying the groundwork for a continuous and accessible pedestrian network. The total cost of Phase 2 was $201,530.40.

Now, in 2026, PoM is proud to announce Phase 3, which builds on this momentum by completing connectivity and pedestrian safety within the same corridor.

Phase 3 extends from Neshota Road to Old Military Road and includes key safety improvements at the Old Military Road and Dauphin Island Parkway intersection, such as new pedestrian signals and marked crosswalks at the signalized intersection.

The anticipated cost of Phase 3 of “Connecting Mobile’s Coastal Peninsula” TAP grant project is $235,594.10. Once complete, the project will continue to strengthen walkability, accessibility, and safe connections for residents, businesses, and visitors along this corridor.

We commend the City of Mobile – Government on it’s commitment to our region as we stay committed to advocating for and implementing infrastructure improvements aimed at bettering connectivity, water quality, community assets, as well as overall recreational and economic health.
