LAGRANGE, Ga. (WTVM) – A LaGrange singer and American Idol contestant is taking the national stage by storm — and Saturday night, he brought that star power right back home.
American Idol top 30 contestant Philmon Lee performed in front of a sold-out crowd Saturday, March 7. And for many fans and family, this concert isn’t just about the music — it’s about cheering on one of their own.
“It feels really good that God gave me the opportunity to be where I am now – in the top 30,” said Philmon Lee.
LaGrange native, and now American Idol top 30, contestant Philmon Lee has been singing his whole life — but Saturday felt different. He brought his talents where it all started after getting his golden ticket.
“God’s given me the key in the door and to open it up and try my best shot you know and I haven’t even wanted it yet, but I mean I feel like I’ve won. You know what I mean. I just sold out my local theater.”
Inside the Royal Theatre, it was clear — this town is all in for one of their own.
“My whole family has known his family since he was little bitty. We’re so proud of him, so proud of him he’s got an amazing voice,” said one attendee.
His little sister Shelby Thompson knows firsthand how hard her brother has worked to get here
“I grew up with him as my best friend, and it was constantly singing around the house like that’s all you ever heard,” his sister said. “If you ever walk in our house it was always him singing or listening to music or him and my dad singing or then playing the guitar or anything like that.”
From singing around the house to selling out the Royal Theatre, Lee is proving that dreams have a way of coming true.
You can follow Philmon’s journey on American Idol with an upcoming American Idol episode Monday.
