Sarah Michelle Gellar celebrates Freddie Prinze Jr.’s 50th birthday with heartfelt tribute

’90s teen heartthrob Freddie Prinze Jr. celebrated his 50th birthday on March 8, 2026, and while he’s no longer a teen, he’s still very much a heartthrob, especially to his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress shared a touching tribute to her longtime love, and fans are swooning over the intimate message.

“Happy Milestone Bday @realfreddieprinze,” she wrote beside two fun photobooth pictures, seemingly from Prinze’s birthday party the night before. “Age is simply the number of years the world has gotten to enjoy you. And no one has enjoyed you, more than me.” See the post, here!

Fans were touched by the message, and took to the comments section to share their birthday wishes and love. “These two go together like they were always meant to be. Happy birthday!” said one, with another writing, “You guys are just the cutest.” A third shared a gif of Fred and Daphne from the Scooby-Doo cartoons dancing together as a fun nod to the two Scooby-Doomovies the couple shot together in 2002 and 2004.

Gellar and Prinze looked great for the special event, with Gellar rocking a sequined top and Prinze wearing a cream crew neck with a soft beige sweater on top. A friend’s post shared to Prinze’s Story showed the cocktail menu from the evening, featuring signature drinks called “The Freddie,” “The Sarah,” and “Prinze of Jalisco.”

Prinze and Gellar are one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples, having been together for decades. The duo first met and became friends in 1997 while filming I Know What You Did Last Summer. They finally started dating in 2000 following what Gellar later described as an “accidental” first date; dinner with a mutual friend that turned into a one-on-one outing when the friend canceled.

The rest is history: they announced their engagement in April 2001 after less than two years together, and they married on Sept. 1, 2002, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. 22 years later, they still appear to be stronger than ever!
