Cuyahoga Falls school lockdown ends safely after student brings loaded firearm to campus

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio (WOIO) – The Cuyahoga Falls City School District was placed in a lockdown Friday morning from a report of a student with a gun on campus.

According to the school website, students reported to the principal that a middle school student may have been carrying a gun on campus.

Upon receiving the report, the district immediately enacted safety protocols and contacted the Student Resources Officers.

The school said it worked in coordination with law enforcement and the student was quickly identified and found to be in possession of a loaded firearm.

The student was immediately taken into the custody by the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department.

The school was placed in a lockdown at 11:15 a.m., but was lifted as of 11:51 a.m., according to an update on the district webpage.

Students and staff remain safe and the school said it appreciates everyone’s patience as it continues to update with more information.

According to the school district, students will dismiss at 2:50 p.m., but said to please note of the delays from increased traffic.

The school released a statement Sunday afternoon.

We would like to provide an update regarding the lockdown incident that occurred at the 6–12 campus on Friday, March 6, 2026.

According to the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department, the student involved is currently being detained and has been charged with multiple felony offenses. The student involved will not return to school.

Beginning Monday morning, an increased police presence will be visible at the 6–12 school campus as an added precaution. Appropriate disciplinary actions will also be taken in accordance with district policy and state law. While we cannot share additional details due to student privacy protections, we are cooperating fully with law enforcement.

We understand that situations like this can be unsettling for students and families. Counseling support will continue to be available for students who may need it, and we encourage families to contact the school if additional support is required.

We remain grateful to those who reported their concerns and to our staff and local law enforcement partners for their swift and professional response. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

In addition to reporting concerns to a teacher, principal, or school security staff, we want to remind families that our district participates in the Safer Ohio School Tip Line, where safety concerns can be reported anonymously 24 hours a day.
