The Pitt wins big at the 2026 WGA Awards

The annual Writers Guild of America Awards were half as celebratory this year. The WGA-East ceremony went off without a hitch, but WGA-West canceled their awards due to an ongoing strike. Yep, the WGA is being picketed by a union of their office workers. Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka, who had been slated to host the WGA-West show before it was canceled, headlined a fundraiser for the Writers Guild Staff Union Sunday night instead. “I was supposed to host the awards this Saturday,” she said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “A day of celebrating the hard work of artists in one of the strongest unions in the U.S. But could we really celebrate while the staff, who help support the union are asking to be heard of their needs? I’m honored to stand with them.”

,

Still, half the awards were collected in-person at New York’s Edison Ballroom. Sinners won Original Screenplay, and One Battle After Another won Adapted. So that tussle is still tussling. Stephen Colbert accepted the Walter Bernstein Award, given to a guild member who shows “a willingness to confront social injustice in the face of adversity,” per a WGA press release. Other big winners of the night included The Pitt, naturally, which won Drama Series and New Series. A full list of winners is below.
