One person was injured after gunfire erupted in a parking lot near a Beaumont movie theater Sunday, prompting police to briefly clear the theater as a precaution.
The shooting was reported in the parking lot of the Waffle House at 3865 Interstate 10 Access Rd, near Cinemark Tinseltown Beaumont 15 and involved a large group of teenagers, according to Haley Morrow, public information officer for the Beaumont Police Department.
One person suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Morrow said. The victim’s identity and age were not immediately released.
As officers responded to the scene, police cleared the nearby movie theater as a safety precaution while they secured the area. The theater was later determined to be safe.
Authorities did not immediately say what led to the shooting or whether any suspects were in custody.
The investigation remains ongoing.
