The actor celebrated his milestone birthday on Sunday, March 8, and his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, marked the occasion with an Instagram tribute featuring playful photos of the pair.
In one image, the two stars can be seen standing with their arms around each other as they made silly faces for the camera. A second photo shows Prinze beaming as his wife planted a kiss on his cheek.
“Happy Milestone Bday @realfreddieprinze,” the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum wrote in the caption.
“Age is simply the number of years the world has gotten to enjoy you,” she continued. “And no one has enjoyed you more than me.”
A number of the couple’s celebrity friends shared their birthday well-wishes for Prinze in the comments, including Lisa Rinna, Amanda Kloots and Heather Dubrow.
Gellar and Prinze met on the set of the 1997 horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer, but they didn’t start dating until years later.
They eventually got engaged in April 2001, and they later wed in September 2002, during a ceremony in Mexico that included celebrity guests among the likes of Shannen Doherty and Wilmer Valderrama.

Prinze and Gellar — who have worked together on various projects, including Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004) and 2006’s animated Happily N’Ever After — expanded their family years later.

The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Charlotte Grace, in 2009, and their second, son Rocky James, in 2012.
Reflecting on his decades-long relationship with Gellar, Prinze told Variety in 2025, “Marriage is hard, no matter what business you’re in. What works for us might not work for everyone else. We work at it.”
The She’s All That alum then acknowledged, “I’m not perfect. She’s not perfect. We piss each other off, but we respect one another.”
Gellar, for her part, revealed earlier this year that the couple’s one marriage rule is very specific.
“Separate bathrooms. That’s what I always say,” the actress told E! News at the premiere of Netflix’s Star Search, where she serves as a judge.
