Nearly eight months after closing down for significant renovations in Disney’s Magic Kingdom, the company is sharing an exciting first look at the refurbished Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.
The new look was specifically shared over social media, which included a short video teasing the updated attraction on Instagram.
“Star Command presents: Infinite fun and beyond!” the video’s narrator proclaims at the start of the video.
The clip then shows a look at some of the many new features that will make their way into the ride, including luminescent new interactive targets and brand-new handheld blasters. While the clip failed to announce an official reopening date for the ride, it went on to hint that the attraction would be “relaunching soon.”
“Don’t miss Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, now back and packed with more power,” the video ends by saying.
Since opening in late 1998, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has remained one of the most popular attractions to appear in Disney’s Tomorrowland, delighting visitors of all ages.
Set in the fictional universe where Buzz Lightyear hails from, the ride acts as an interactive shooting game that allows players to combat the galaxy’s most sinister villain: the Evil Emperor Zurg.
Riders act as Star Command recruits attempting to defeat the galactic tyrant, saving the universe by destroying various battery cells through the attraction’s patented blasters.
In more recent years, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin was shut down in August of last year to make way for new renovations. Though the aforementioned clip shows off some of the new changes in store for the ride, it’s likely the attraction has underwent some serious refurbishments given the length of time it’s been closed.
While it’s more than likely the attraction will reopen by spring, it’s also possible Disney might reopen the attraction to coincide with the release of the highly anticipated Toy Story 5 on June 19.
