Actor Corey Parker, known for his roles on the sitcom “Will & Grace” and in films and TV series from the 1980s and 1990s, has died at the age of 61 after a battle with cancer. He died on Thursday in Memphis, Tennessee, his aunt Emily Parker confirmed to TMZ, but she did not reveal the type of cancer.
Sister’s touching post
His sister Noelle paid tribute to the actor on Instagram. “I believe he left this world relieved, at peace and surrounded by love,” she wrote.
“We celebrate your incredible talent, the unparalleled passion and joy you brought to your work and family, your immense gift for teaching, generosity and love. Our lives are so much richer for having known you. You live on in each of us and in everything you gave us and inspired us with… forever,” she added.
Film and television roles
During his career, Parker achieved numerous roles in Hollywood, and first appeared on the screens in the mid-1980s. One of his earlier roles was in the horror film “Friday the 13th V: A New Beginning”, in which he played Pete. Soon after, he appeared in the romantic drama “9 and a Half Weeks” alongside Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke.
Television audiences later got to know him through his starring role in the sitcom “Flying Blind”. In the series, he played Neil Barash, a socially awkward young man who tries to find a balance between life and love alongside the free-spirited Alicia, played by Téa Leoni. Although the series lasted only one season, many famous names appeared in it, including Lisa Kudrow.
Parker later appeared in the popular NBC comedy series “Will and Grace”, where he played Josh, one of Grace Adler’s partners, in several episodes. During his career, he has appeared in numerous television series and films, including “Biloxi Blues,” “White Palace,” “Love Boat: The Next Wave,” “Nashville,” and “Blue Skies.”
Dedicated final years to mentoring
In his final years, Parker retired from acting and devoted himself to working with younger actors. He worked as an acting coach on projects such as the series “Sun Records” and the Marvel series “Ms. Marvel.”
